Update an NPI
You may have to manually add or update a provider's National Provider Identifier (NPI A unique identifier issued by the National Plan and Provider Enumeration System (NPPES) to all health care providers who want to send or receive HIPAA transactions. The NPI is required under HIPAA legislation for all HIPAA transactions.) because it is missing or incorrect in the system. For example, the fund office receives correspondence with the provider's NPI.
Note:
Because the first service provider listed for a billing provider is the billing provider itself, you can enter the billing provider’s NPI via Service Provider. The NPIs are stored in the service provider file.
